Colloidal Stabilization via Nanoparticle Halos

The above image is a schematic showing the effects of nonadsorbing, mutually repulsive nanoparticle additions to mutually attractive microspheres. At modest nanoparticle concentrations, nanoparticles form a protective "halo" configuration around the microspheres preventing flocculation. Data was acquired with the Fluorescence Microscope and the schematics were created in Maya.
